Tony Khan Comments On The Status Of The AEW Interim Women’s World Championship

AEW President Tony Khan emphasized that he wanted to give Thunder Rosa the chance to come back and defend her title, but he’ll have to make a decision once he has a better timeline for her return.

At AEW All Out, AEW crowned an interim champion after reigning AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa went down with an injury in August. Toni Storm won the interim title at the pay-per-view, and she defended the gold on multiple occasions. Jamie Hayter beat Storm to win the gold at AEW Full Gear on November 19.

During the AEW Full Gear post-show media scrum, WrestleZone”s Bill Pritchard asked about the status of the interim title and Khan’s previous comments about wanting to give Rosa the chance to return. Khan responded by noting that he’ll have to make a decision once he has a better timeline for Rosa’s return. He stated that he could potentially give the interim champion the opportunity to become the true titleholder.

“Well it’s a new championship reign, absolutely. I have been evaluating that, and it’s something we’re taking under consideration,” Khan said. “We certainly have been trying to give Thunder Rosa every opportunity to come back and defend the championship. It’s been a few months now, and when we get a better timeline for her return, I’ll have to make a decision about whether to continue with the interim or to make the interim champion possibly some kind of an opportunity to be done the lineal champion.”
