Tony Khan: There’s A Good Chance The Elite Could Use ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ Again

Tony Khan isn’t closing the door on The Elite being Wayward Sons once more.

During the AEW Full Gear post-show media scrum, Tony Khan was asked about The Elite’s in-ring return and the “Wayward Sons” trademark reports. The Elite’s in-ring return was highlighted by Kansas’ “Carry On Wayward Son” as their entrance theme, and Khan said he’s open to using that again but fans shouldn’t expect anything drastic like a name change.

“No, no we never talked about changing the name. It wasn’t gonna be a rebrand, it wasn’t gonna be like a Generation Me situation or anything [laughs]. I was a big fan of the Young Bucks, and then when they were Generation Me, I was like, okay. I really liked the Young Bucks and Nigel McGuiness, and then they were Generation Me and Desmond Wolfe, I was scratching my head. That’s why I think it’s good for people to come to AEW and keep their names for the most part. With ‘The Wayward Sons’ trademark, no, I don’t know about the trademark. But I do think the song was a great idea. They asked me about licensing it. It’s similar to trades in sports, where it takes two willing parties,” Khan explained. “Sometimes you’re very happy to get a deal, and then you’re like, ‘Wow, that was really very pleasant. It was a good deal and a good trade for both teams. You feel good about the trade.’ Other times, they’re very brutal and painful and at the end of it, you feel like you got dragged. This was not one of those. They were very nice. Kansas and all their people we worked with were very nice about licensing it. The Elite asked me about the use of it, and I thought it was a great idea.

“I am very open to using it again, and they were very cool about us using it tonight,” Khan noted. “So I think there’s a good chance we could it again.”

Khan also confirmed that The Elite are still involved in the production of the show and returned to their respective EVP roles. He noted that Kenny Omega is involved in the AEW Fight Forever video game and it’s great to have them on-screen and behind the scenes.
