STRONG Openweight Tag Title Match And More Set For 12/17 NJPW STRONG

The STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championship will be defended on the December 17 episode of NJPW STRONG.

NJPW has announced the card for Saturday’s show, and the Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) will defend the gold against Stray Dog Army (Misterioso & Barrett Brown). Elsewhere on the show, KENTA will face Bad Dude Tito, and Jakob Austin Young will take on Bateman.

The preview, courtesy of NJPW’s official website, is as follows:

Main event: STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championships: Motor City Machineguns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) vs Stray Dog Army (Barrett Brown & Misterioso)

With a shocking three way victory back at Rumble on 44th Street, the Motor City Machineguns captured the STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championships, despite not having appeared on STRONG proper. That debut happens this Saturday night, with their first defence opposite the Stray Dog Army team of Barrett Brown and Misterioso. The Stray Dog Army team earned their way to this championship opportunity in a similarly chaotic environment, winning a number one contenders’ four way match last month. After a long struggle where wins seemed elusive for Bateman’s faction, now the stars are aligning; could they create new tag team champions?

2nd Match: KENTA vs Bad Dude Tito

Singles action will see KENTA return to STRONG after almost two full years to face Bad Dude Tito. TMDK’s ‘Big Teets’ battles the BULLET CLUB member for the first time one on one this week, but does have a long history with TMDK’s faction mates in TMDK, stretching back to their Japanese origins in Pro-Wrestling NOAH. With Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls recently coming close to the World Tag League finals, and JONAH becoming a phenomenon in Japan over the summer, bad Dude Tito wants to make similar advances in 2023, but KENTA wants to get back on track as well in the new year; what does he have in mind?

1st Match: Jakob Austin Young vs Bateman

While his charges go for STRONG Openweight Tag Championship gold in the main event, Bateman represents the Stray Dog Army in singles action to kick us off. As J.A.Y continues his path on STRONG, he seeks his first singles win; can he get it at the expense of the twisted Bateman?

WrestleZone will have coverage of NJPW STRONG after it airs on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET on NJPW WORLD.
