Stephen Amell Shares Progress Update On Season 2 Of Heels

Stephen Amell is excited for fans to see the second season of Heels once some behind-the-scenes issues are worked out.

During a recent appearance on Inside Of You with Michael Rosenbaum, actor Stephen Amell gave a bit of an update on the progress on his STARZ series Heels.

Rosenbaum asked if Amell had any anxiety about Heels coming back for a third season, and Amell said he’s feeling good overall. Amell said that second season is nearly done being edited, but STARZ and Lionsgate are currently working out some ownership issues that have slowed progress as far as when the show will actually air.

“I’m enjoying this moment a lot right now, actually to a point where I don’t know if I’ve ever been as settled in and comfy in my own skin as I am at this particular moment. I wouldn’t say there’s anxiety,” Amell explained, “but we are going through a process where STARZ was acquired by Lionsgate in 2016 and they are now in the process of now — as best I understand it — untangling that partnership. I have no idea what that means by the way, but again, from the little of it that I understand, as they are untangling everything, they are figuring out which assets belong to whom. So as a result, we wrapped filming on the first of July and we don’t have a premiere date, let alone a trailer, let alone an indication of season three.

“I know there are meetings that are starting to happen about writing for season three,” he added, “but in the normal order of things, we would have more information than we do right now. I just talked with Mike O’Malley this morning, he’s our showrunner and he’s like, ‘I’m putting the finishing touches on 8’, which is our final episode this year. So again, that’s how far along we are in the process. It’s amazing. I’d be worried if I didn’t think the season was spectacular. 100% better [than season one].

Amell said that he’s excited about the bigger scale of the story and noted that things were a lot smoother from a production standpoint compared to season one.

“[Season two has] more story, more scope. I personally think that I went up a level for a variety of reasons. I’m incredibly happy with my performance and the action and the storytelling. It also felt more like a cohesive season because we shot it in order and were subject to ‘COVID hiccups’ but not COVID catastrophes.’

Amell also said he got COVID again this year and it was a frustrating experience.

“Very frustrating,” he noted. “It fuckin sucked. I fucking hated it. No, I hated it. I didn’t like it. I wanted to work.”

Later in the show, Amell speculated that the second season of Heels would premiere in the first half of 2023, but no release details have been confirmed yet.
