M. Night Shyamalan Sees Parallels In Working With Dave Bautista And Haley Joel Osment

M. Night Shyamalan believes Dave Bautista has some of the same personality traits as one of his most famous lead actors.

Dave Bautista was recently profiled in a new feature by GQ that highlighted his road to stardom as an actor. The feature also included comments from some of the directors that Bautista has worked with over the years including M. Night Shyamalan, who directed Bautista in the upcoming Knock At The Cabin.

“It felt more like working with Haley [Joel Osment] in Sixth Sense than anything else,” Shyamalan said. “When Haley came on set, the set would become reverential—even though he was 10, he was approaching it with an importance, all of his cells were going toward the emotion of his character. Dave conveyed that same thing. All the other actors fed off his purity of intention. It was infectious in the best way.”

Under Pressure

Bautista noted how much pressure he felt being on the set of “Cabin” and said he tried to find the right balance.

“It’s by far the most I’ve ever spoken in a film,” Bautista said. “Just huge pages of monologues. We were shooting on film, which is very expensive. And we were shooting with one camera, so you don’t have the luxury of edits. It’s your only opportunity—you need a perfect take. It’s a lot of pressure. I want to remember my dialogue, but not at the expense of losing the emotion of the scene.”

Bautista also spoke about how fans can see him growing as an actor throughout each of his films and explained that it’s something he’s become consumed with doing.

“I’m obsessed with [acting],” Bautista said. “It’s this puzzle that I can’t figure out. You don’t know if it’s right, but sometimes it feels right. I don’t get those moments a lot, but every once in a while I do. And fuck, to me, there’s nothing like it. It’s a natural high. It’s an addiction.”

Knock At The Cabin is due in theatres on February 3.
