Finn Balor Says His Judgment Day Character Was The Original Vision For His 2019 NXT Run

The character Finn Balor is playing now on WWE RAW is the character he envisioned himself to be when he returned it NXT in 2019.

The Judgment Day‘s Finn Balor recently sat down with WWE on BT Sport to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about the night he joined The Judgment Day, Balor spoke about the conversation he had with Vince McMahon before the segment took place.

“This was such a weird night because I remember it was like 7:55 pm, and we’re going live at eight o’clock,” Finn Balor recalled. “I knocked on Vince McMahon’s office. I go in there, and I say, ‘Sir, have you got a minute?’ And he looks up from his papers, and he goes, ‘Is it about tonight?’ I said, ‘Yeah, it’s about tonight. It’s about the heel turn.’ He goes, ‘Ah, come in.’ So I just wanted some direction as to, like ‘Hey, am I going out there like in the suits like in The Judgment Day colors? Or am I going out as Finn? Am I going out to music? What way are we doing it?’ And he said, ‘No, just go out as Finn and then do the segment.’ Okay, that’s cool. So there wasn’t really much thought or planning went into it, but it definitely made an impact.”

Balor went on to reveal that the version of him we’re seeing now on WWE RAW is what he originally envisioned for his return to NXT. However, the black and gold faithful were unwilling to accept him as a heel.

“And I feel like this was the version of Finn that I wanted to do in NXT,” Finn Balor revealed. “And we just couldn’t do it because the crowd had been too attached to me from the previous run, and then the crowd got completely taken out of it. So there was no chance, even being a heel, to get like a heel reaction. So this is kind of what I went back to NXT to do, and three years later, I get to do it properly.”

When asked what it’s been like working with the other members of The Judgment Day, Balor put everyone over and said that so many people helped him in his career he thinks it’s only fair to pay it forward to the rest of the group.

“It’s been great,” Finn Balor said. “Priest is someone who I wasn’t very familiar with, and then we wrestled in NXT. And kind of like a friendship forged in war, you know? And Rhea’s obviously got this element of cool that’s kind of undefinable. And then recently, Dominik has just come into his completely own. I don’t know how you even explain it, but it’s almost like he’s transcended what his father has done already with the reactions that he’s getting. But so many people helped me in my career that I feel like it’s only fair to pay that forward to these guys.”
