Sami Zayn Could Be World Champion, But He’s Not Sure He’s ‘The Face Of WWE’ Material

Sami Zayn believes he’s world championship material but he’s not sure if he fits the mold of being the face of WWE.

Speaking with Ariel Helwani of BT Sport, Sami Zayn was asked about his role in the company and if he felt like he could be a pillar of WWE. Sami said he could honestly see himself carrying WWE’s top title for a bit, but he’s not sure he’s the guy that is the long-term “face” of the company like a Roman Reigns or Brock Lesnar.

“If I’m being honest, I don’t know if I feel like… I could win the world title, I could carry it for a while, I could go do talk shows, I can do all that stuff. I don’t know if I’m that you can necessarily hitch your wagon to for the next five-ten years and [be] the face of the company for the next five-ten years. If nothing else, because I’m somewhat realistic about my physical, you know, like I’m not as big as say Roman or Cena or Brock or whoever,” he noted, “and that’s typically the guy who’s at the head of that scene because they want a certain projection, I think for the long haul.

“Could I win the world title? I think, especially because of the story is done, if you do anything right, fans will buy it, and they’ll get into it. So I think at this point, the way things have built — I’m not saying this is what’s gonna happen — but if it was me and Roman at WrestleMania, and I beat Roman and we did it right, the way we’ve been doing it right for the last nine months, no one’s gonna go, ‘Bogus. I’m out. I can’t take that.’ Because we’ve done it right,” Sami said. “I think I could be a guy who could carry that title six months, go on Jimmy Fallon, make a couple of jokes, have him do his fake laugh that he does, all that good stuff. Sure, I could do that. Probably do it in my sleep, to be honest.”

Zayn said that he understands what WWE looks for in a face of the company, noting it’s completely different than being world champion.

“I feel like I could be the champion, no problem. As far as being the guy that they [see as] number one, he’s our guy, he’s the poster boy, he’s the ultimate representation of what our company, I know physically I don’t fit that mold,” Sami stated. “So I don’t know if that’s me being self-deprecating or what it is, but I’m somewhat of a realist when it comes to that.”
