NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Tyrus recently sat down with Muscle Man Malcolm to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about his upcoming title defense against Matt Cardona at NWA Nuff Said, Tyrus explains why he has the advantage over the former champion.
“Well, the only way you beat Matt is you got to outthink Matt,” Tyrus admitted. “Although I have an advantage is my strength. If Matt gets caught slipping because one thing about Matt is he’s frustrated. I’m relaxed. He’s got to beat me. You got to beat the champ. In boxing, all sports, you got to beat the champ. I could T-bone him six rows into the crowd, and who knows if he can get his little ass back in the ring or not.
“But there’s only one way — there’s the best competition in the world is with guys you’ve bled with, sweat with, train with. Him and I have been through highs and lows, whether it’s WWE, IMPACT. We’ve always fought in the same things. Last time we were in Tampa, we were a tag team, and we had a big victory on Monday Night RAW together, so we got a great history, and may the best man win. Or if he brings any of his punks, I got my squad; Jeez got my back. So I’m not worried about it. I’m excited, man. I’m in great shape coming in and riding the roller coaster right now, and momentum is my friend.”
When asked about what he’s doing in the gym at this stage of his career, Tyrus revealed some monstrous numbers he’s still pulling off after getting his stretch on.
“I’m still throwing it around. Still relaxed, confident 575 bench,” Tyrus revealed. “I still deadlifting over 650, and I can still squat seven all day and just keep going. Although the older you get, you know what I got to do now? Stretch! Because my memory is painful. I can’t just go in and throw it around anymore. I gotta go in and stretch and roll around on a little ball for a minute. Then go let all the puny humans watch me work out.”
