Paul Wight has his sights set on getting back into the ring.

Speaking with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Wight offered an update on his comeback and noted that he dealt with some obstacles, but he’s “good” now. As a result, Wight noted that he’s hopeful he’ll be back in the ring in March.

“You know, there’s been some setbacks personally,” Wight said. “I mean, I’ve had a couple of injury setbacks, had to get a knee replaced in August. That knee was bad for 12 years, so it could’ve gone any day! It’s like kind of like that tire on your car that you know you should change but keep driving anyway. But we’re good now, and hopefully we’ll be back in the ring in March. Everything’s on schedule, so we’re looking good.”

The veteran specifically expressed his interest in facing The Gunns (Austin & Colten Gunn), who defeated The Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens) to win the AEW World Tag Team Championship on the February 8 episode of AEW Dynamite. The Gunns, alongside their father, Billy, previously attacked Wight during his feud with QT Marshall in 2021, and the powerhouse has his sights set on revenge.

“They’re a couple of little smart asses right now. Down the road I wanna compete against them at least so I can chop the hell out of them,” Wight said with a laugh. “It needs to happen… They’re incredibly athletic, they have a bright future.”

Wight went on to note that he wants to dive into commentary, but he’d also like to compete “a little bit more.”

“Commentary is something I want to get into and get my reps in,” Wight said. “That’s where I want my career to end up, is doing major commentary. But also competing a little bit more. “I enjoy being in the ring with younger talent. There’s things you can tell them, but there’s things you can actually show them the rhythm and timing of in the ring that make more sense and will help them grow as talent. So, I just saw more of that as an opportunity here in AEW.”

As of this writing, Wight has not wrestled since the AEW Dark: Elevation taping on March 30, 2022. He remains part of the show’s broadcast team.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
