Carmelo Hayes Shoots Down Rumor About Potential WWE Call-Up

Melo don’t miss, but he says someone else did.

Carmelo Hayes took to Twitter to comment on a new report about his potential WWE main roster call-up in the near future. According to a new report from Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com (via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter), Hayes’ name has been mentioned as a possible addition to The Hurt Business. Meltzer noted that nothing was definite and it was probably not going to happen until after NXT Stand & Deliver in April.

“Speaking of Hayes, it has been batted around the idea of Hayes in the Hurt Business with MVP, [Shelton] Benjamin, [Cedric] Alexander and [Bobby] Lashley. That was a discussion and not definite,” Meltzer wrote. “But there has been talk of Hayes coming to the main roster. It probably wouldn’t happen until after April since Bron Breakker vs. Hayes looks to be the main event of the 4/1 NXT show in Los Angeles.”

Carmelo Hayes has now commented on the report, claiming that it’s not very accurate at all:

Carmelo Hayes previously sat down with Rick Ucchino of Cageside Seats and addressed the speculation that he could get called up to the main roster in the near future. Hayes said he enjoys the attention about his status, but he made it clear that his focus remains on NXT.

“Sometimes yeah (laughs). Sometimes I play along, like with the Hit Row thing. I mean, I don’t know. It’s cool that people really do see me in that regard,” Hayes said. “People are anticipating me and expecting me and that means a lot to me for real. It really does. But I’m focused on what I’m doing here in NXT right now. But then again, who knows man, like this is WWE. They could call me tomorrow for whatever. So you know, it could be me. But as far as like personally, right now, I’m just so focused on what I need to be doing in NXT that I try not to entertain those ideas too much.”

Carmelo Hayes is a two-time NXT North American Champion. He defeated Apollo Crews in a two-out-of-three falls match at NXT Vengeance Day, and is now expected to move on to challenge Bron Breakker for the NXT Championship at Stand & Deliver in Los Angeles.
