Bronson Reed discusses his return to WWE and describes how competing in the G1 Climax was beneficial.
Reed rose to prominence in NXT after he signed with WWE. He won the NXT North American Championship and seemed set to move to the main roster until he was released in a wave of cuts in August 2021. Following his exit, he had prominent runs in both NJPW and IMPACT Wrestling. As JONAH, he had a remarkable stretch in the prestigious G1 Climax Tournament, and he defeated Kazuchika Okada, who now holds the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. In his last NJPW match, he lost to Okada at the Declaration of Power event in October. Reed then returned to WWE on the December 19 episode of WWE RAW
Speaking with John Pollock of POST Wrestling, Reed discussed his return to WWE. When asked about his time away from the ring, between his NJPW departure and his arrival on RAW, Reed noted that it was strange, and he was eager to return to action.
“I’m someone that, I’ve always been on the road, I’ve always been wrestling, whether it was with WWE, NXT, before that I was obviously on the indies for a long time, then Japan,” Reed said./ “So having those couple months off was really weird for me. It was nice, I got to let the body rest, stay home for a little while. But it was strange to not be on the road. I was itching to come back, and as soon as I could, I was happy to.”
Reed was also asked about his experience in the G1 Climax tournament and described how working with top stars on a regular basis helped give him a chip on his shoulder. He expressed his gratitude for his run in NJPW.
“I always tell people, if anything, it just gave me more confidence. That’s 18 shows in 4 weeks,” Reed said. “It’s a lot of wrestling, and a lot of those matches are big-time singles matches with people that you’ve never worked with before. If anything, it gave me more confidence to come back here with WWE with a bit of a chip on my shoulder, that I’m one of the best pro wrestlers out there, so throw me into the mix straight away, and I’ll make it work. I was very grateful for my run there as well.”
