Sammy Guevara wants the gold, both in AEW and potentially elsewhere.
Guevara has been with AEW since 2019, its inaugural year. He is a three-time TNT Champion, and he holds the record for most title reigns with Cody Rhodes. The two stars traded the title back and forth at the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022.
Speaking with MuscleManMalcolm, Guevara was asked to name his goals for the rest of the year. He responded by stating that he wants to win the TNT Championship again so he can break the record for the most title reigns. Guevara also teased that he could go to another company and win a title there, and he noted that some “fun stuff” is in the works.
“This calendar year, I mean we gotta be champion again,” Guevara said. “I’m tied for the most TNT Title runs with Cody Rhodes, so we gotta break that record. Both three-time right now. We gotta go for four. So that’s one of the goals to break that. Then, sky’s the limit is what they say. But screw that, there’s a universe out there. Make me champ champ, make me trios champ. Maybe I’ll go to another company, win another belt somewhere else. So we’ll see, man. There’s a lot of fun stuff in the works, and I can’t wait to show everybody as it happens.”
Later in the interview, Guevara noted that his goal is the world title, that’s where his sights are set.
Guevara has won gold outside of AEW during his time with the company; he and Tay Melo captured the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship in 2022, but the titles were later vacated when the duo didn’t appear at a scheduled defense.
