El Hijo del Vikingo is excited and nervous for his AEW Dynamite debut.
This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite will feature a major dream match that fans have been waiting for over a year to see as Kenny Omega will square off with AAA’s El Hijo Del Vikingo. The two were slated to face each other in December 2021, but Omega’s injuries led to the match being scrapped. Now, Omega returns to singles action against a man he’s never faced before.
Ahead of the bout, Vikingo spoke to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated about the mix of emotions he’s feeling.
“I’m excited to be on television on Dynamite and show my skills to the world. I’ve wanted this fight for so long. It is an honor to come to AEW and wrestle Kenny,” Vikingo said. “I have a lot of special moves that I want the world to see. Some I’ve already mastered, and I want to show those off, and I want to show off some moves that people have never seen before.”
With this dream match taking place on Omega’s home turf rather than in Mexico like they planned in 2021, Vikingo admits he feels nervous.
“I am very nervous. I am coming to Kenny’s home in AEW. I am nervous to represent Mexico. But those nerves won’t get in front of me. It will only add to my excitement and fire,” Vikingo added. “I am fighting for all the luchadores that came before me. I am going to bring that Aztec fighting spirit. This is going to be a fight like you’ve never seen before.”
The 25-year-old is the reigning AAA Mega Champion and is a former two-time AAA World Trios Champion. In addition to AAA, Vikingo has worked matches for IMPACT Wrestling, GCW, and Warrior Wrestling.
