Rocky Romero ‘Would Love’ To See Shinsuke Nakamura Return To NJPW

Rocky Romero says he would love to see WWE star Shinsuke Nakamura return to New Japan Pro-Wrestling for a few matches.

Before he signed with WWE in 2016, Nakamura was one of NJPW’s top stars, and he had a lengthy run with the company. He is a three-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion and a five-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion, among other accolades. During his time with NJPW, Nakamura competed in a number of memorable matches; he had classic bouts with Kazxuchika Okada and Kota Ibushi.

Speaking on Comedy Store Wrestling, Romero was asked if he wants to see any crossover between NJPW and WWE, and he stated that he wants to see Nakamura come back to New Japan.

“Honestly I would love to see Nakamura come back to New Japan and to do some really cool matches. Obviously, we got some big ones. He got to work with Okada, and [he had] so many great matches with Tanahashi, but I think he’s somebody whose obviously so important to New Japan and the history that I think him coming back, just for the fans, would just be massive, and I would like to see him come back.

Romero continued by noting that Nakamura isn’t on TV all the time, but he thinks the former Intercontinental Champion returning to NJPW for a few matches could get people excited about him again.

“Unfortunately, he’s not on TV all the time,” Romero said. “He’s kind of disappeared from TV for a little bit there, so I feel like him coming back and just doing a couple matches would be great for him, just to get people really excited about him and his character again, and then also I just want to give back to our fans who have been so loyal over the last few years.”

Nakamura had been absent from WWE TV for a few months before he returned on the April 14 episode of WWE SmackDown. He was drafted to WWE RAW during the 2023 WWE Draft. On Monday, he appeared on Miz TV during WWE RAW, and he dropped the former world champion with the Kinshasha.
