Saraya & Taylor Wilde Open Up About Their Respective Journeys To Sobriety

Saraya and Taylor Wilde have opened up about each of their journeys to sobriety.

Professional wrestlers often play a character on-screen, but behind the camera, they are genuine human beings with their own thoughts, emotions, and struggles. Unfortunately, some of those struggles can be deeply concerning. For Saraya and Taylor Wilde, some of their troubles stemmed from their use of alcohol.

On a recent episode of Wilde On, the two discussed their previous encounters with alcohol and their path to staying sober. “I’ve been sober over a year now,” Wilde began. People ask me from time to time like, ‘Why don’t you drink? What’s the deal?’ And my honest answer, it took me almost a year and a half to get the answer, but I just really feel like I’m not running from anything anymore. I’s more myself. Nothing good in my life ever happened when I was drinking, ever.”

“I never thought I could be a sober person,” Wilde continued. “And it’s not even like I was in a binge, well I could binge drink, but it was more just like consistency. When you’re in this line of work, you don’t have normal hours. You don’t hang around normal people, so drinking culture is different. Plus, I’ve been a firefighter for ten years. Drinking culture is different with that. It’s just more acceptable and it shouldn’t be as acceptable as we make it. Having 2 or 3 glasses of wine, a bottle of wine, every day is not normal, is not good for you.”

Saraya chimed in with her thoughts next. “It’s not normal. And I said this before, I was like, it’s so strange that alcohol is the only drug where people are just like, ‘Why don’t you do it?’ I’m like, ‘Why do you do it?’ It is a rude question. No, I don’t f***ing drink. It’s okay if I don’t drink, I feel great. I don’t wake up with a hangover, I don’t feel like sh*t. I don’t need it. If you don’t need it, you don’t need it. And people shouldn’t judge you for not wanting to have that drug in your body. And again, I don’t judge anybody that wants to do it. If my friends and stuff, they want to have a glass here and there that’s on them. I don’t care. Do your thing, but why do people judge us for being sober? It’s crazy, bizarre.”

Wilde then dove deeper into her previous relationship with drinking. “It is bizarre. When I used to drink and I saw sober people, I would be projecting on them, like, ‘Why don’t you drink loser?’ And now that I’m on the other side of it…But I was not well [before], I was so unhealed. I was so triggered all the time and I was just self-medicating. And I was running from the relationship that I refused to heal with myself. I couldn’t do it. You gave me chills when you said it, you were thankful for your rock bottom. I am so thankful for my rock bottoms because I am truly the happiest, most content I’ve ever been in my life. And I wouldn’t get there if it wasn’t for all the shit I’ve been through.”
