Get ready to revisit the world of Heels this summer.
Entertainment Weekly is reporting the second season of Heels premieres Friday, July 28 at 10 p.m. on Starz. The outlet has a first look at the new season, as well as a new interview with Heels showrunner and co-star Mike O’Malley about what to expect (and why the show was delayed).
“We completed production on July 1st of last year. Then we had an extensive post-production period because we had some visual effects. One of the things I love about Starz is how much time and thought they put into everything. We finished post-production in January. There was no issue in terms of the creative. I think there are attending issues with Lionsgate and Starz, who are both in business on this [show],” O’Malley explained, “and they’re separating from one another. We didn’t do any rewriting. We didn’t do any reshooting. Starz, they like to launch one or two shows a quarter, and they decided that summertime is the best for this show. There was nothing nefarious, nobody got injured.”
The first season of Heels aired from August 15 to October 10 of 2021.
Stephen Amell echoed O’Malley’s comments during a recent appearance on Inside Of You with Michael Rosenbaum, comparing the Starz/Lionsgate relationship to an “untangling.”
“I’m enjoying this moment a lot right now, actually to a point where I don’t know if I’ve ever been as settled in and comfy in my own skin as I am at this particular moment. I wouldn’t say there’s anxiety,” Amell explained, “but we are going through a process where STARZ was acquired by Lionsgate in 2016 and they are now in the process of now — as best I understand it — untangling that partnership. I have no idea what that means by the way, but again, from the little of it that I understand, as they are untangling everything, they are figuring out which assets belong to whom. So as a result, we wrapped filming on the first of July and we don’t have a premiere date, let alone a trailer, let alone an indication of season three.”
Several notable names from the world of professional wrestling are expected to appear in season two, including CM Punk and Serena Deeb, as well as IMPACT Wrestling stars Jordynne Grace and Savannah Evans.
The NWA’s PJ Hawx spoke with WrestleZone about working on the show in a dual role, as he plays Denny the referee but also works behind the scenes alongside his father, Luke Hawx, who serves as the show’s wrestling coordinator. Check out that full interview below:
