Gable Steveson: ‘My Time Is Coming Sooner Than A Lot Of People Think’

Gable Steveson earned a title and qualified for the senior world team during Final X Saturday night at Prudential Center. Steveson defeated an old college rival, Mason Parris from Michigan, in two straight matches. Steveson won the first match 6-2 and then shut out Parris in the second match. Although an Olympic champion, Steveson will be competing in his first Senior World Championships.

Steveson spoke with Cliff Blunt of the Associated Press about having the itch for both Olympic wrestling and professional wrestling. He said, “The itch and fire will never go away. And I feel like if you ask any competitor, old or young, I think it’s always there. But some people just don’t have the bodies to do it because they’re a little older. But I think me just turning 23, I still had that extra fire and I want to see what I could do. I wanted to test my limits. And so I stayed ready just in case the time came where I could come back. I need to have that Paris experience in front of a packed house. I need to have them see what it’s like to see Gable Steveson in person.”

As every interviewer seemingly asks Steveson, the big question was when he actually plans to come to WWE full time and appear regularly. Steveson said, “I am still doing my thing. I have changed my diet, my body appearance. I wanted to be the best thing ever so when I did go on TV, it was going to be a sight that nobody has seen before. My time is coming and it’s coming sooner than a lot of people think.”

As for the Final X event, it was dominated by Penn State, as nine current or former Penn State Wrestlers along with members of Penn State’s Olympic Regional Training Center competed. Six earned a spot on the 2023 United State’s World Team.
