Tony Khan: AEW, NJPW Partnership Is More Imperative Than Ever With WWE/UFC Merger

Tony Khan discusses the importance of AEW‘s partnership with New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

The relationship between the two companies remains strong, as they will team up for a Forbidden Door pay-per-view for the second year in a row. The Forbidden Door 2 event on June 25 isn’t the only big show on AEW’s calendar, as the company will make its United Kingdom debut with AEW All In London at Wembley Stadium on August 27.

Speaking with Rocky Swift of Reuters, Khan commented on the early success of AEW All In London at Wembley Stadium and expressed his hope that there will be participation from NJPW in the event.

“It would be a huge benefit to AEW if there is participation from New Japan Pro Wrestling and some of their top stars in the event,” Khan said.”

Khan also commented on the relationship between the two companies and stated that their partnership would be more important than ever if the WWE and UFC merger happens as it has been reported.

“In a world where the proposed merger happens, as it is suggested on paper, then I would believe the AEW, New Japan Pro Wrestling partnership is more imperative than ever before,” Khan said.

Takami Ohbari, President of NJPW, also commented on the partnership and highlighted the way it benefits both companies and their push for global expansion.

“It’s really mutually beneficial in terms of the global expansion for New Japan and also for AEW,” Ohbari said.

In the interview, Ohbari said New Japan “would consider sending talent for the Wembley show if they get an offer.”
