Kris Statlander Explains Why She Doesn’t Want A Customized TBS Championship

Kris Statlander wants to set a precedent by keeping things the same.

New AEW TNT Champion Kris Statlander spoke with Bleav/Cageside Seats’ Rick Ucchino. Statlander was asked if she would be getting a customized title, following in the footsteps of other AEW champions like Miro and Scorpio Sky, who got custom TNT titles.

Statlander said she doesn’t want to defend a customized TBS Championship, but she might like having one for her personal collection.

“I don’t know. I think it would be really cool to have that but I also think that it’s important to keep it similar in a way where it shows that you beat one person and it doesn’t look like a belt was made just for you. I feel like it’s important to show that you actually did win it from someone that had it before. I think it’s nice to see how one belt has traveled instead of a customized belt. But I do think for my own home purposes, if I were to keep a replica I would want my own version of it. But I do think — like I said, it’s nice to see this one belt has been held by multiple people. It shows I beat Jade for this belt, not one that’s my own. It’s not necessarily about the [physical] belt, it’s more about what I do with it.”

“It’s not — and obviously AEW is still very new, but it’s almost like a nostalgic feel. You’re holding a piece of history every single time it gets passed on and I think that’s important. As cool as the customized belts are, I think there’s something really special about just the one that gets [passed on to each champion].”
