Kazuchika Okada On Potential Match With CM Punk: If The Fans Want It, I Want To Do It

Kazuchika Okada is open to facing CM Punk.

Okada and Punk are two of the top stars in the wrestling world, and ahead of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, fans continue to speculate about potential crossover matches. Punk and Okada often come up in the conversation, as they have never faced each other.

Punk previously gave Okada his “address”, which was actually the United Center, but the match has yet to happen. Ahead of the first Forbidden Door event, Punk went down with an injury, and he missed the show.

Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Okada was asked whether he still wanted to face Punk, and he responded by referencing the issues between the former champion and The Young Bucks. However, he stated that he wanted to do the match if the fans wanted to see it.

“I’m not sure—The Young Bucks are kind of friends of mine,” Okada says with a laugh, alluding to the issues between the Bucks and Punk. “But if fans want to see the match, I want to do it. In Chicago.”

At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, Okada will face Bryan Danielson in a dream match. Okada was asked about Jon Moxley, Danielson’s stablemate in Blackpool Combat Club, and he noted that he’d be excited to face “The Innovator of Violence” in a singles match someday.

“My focus is on Danielson, not him,” Okada said. “But having wrestled him in tag matches, I felt he’s better than I’d imagined. I’d definitely be excited to wrestle him in a singles match someday.”

WrestleZone will have coverage of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door as it airs on June 25.
