Matt Cardona Talks Cody Rhodes Nightmare Family Story, Recalls Pitch To Tony Khan

Matt Cardona clears the air.

Cody Rhodes previously recalled the time Cardona “tanked” his first meeting with the management of a certain company, as he refused to wear a Nightmare Factory jacket. Rhodes was seemingly referring to Cardona’s brief run in All Elite Wrestling in 2020.

Speaking with Sam Roberts on Notsam Wrestling, Cardona was asked about the story. He noted that there was some truth to it, but it was a “Cody story.” The Internet Champion stated that he did not want to be part of the Nightmare Family, though he still has the jacket in his closet.

“There’s some truth to that, but it’s a Cody story,” Cardona said. “I did not want to be a part of the Nightmare Family, that is true. But I do have the jacket in my closet. If you want to buy it, hit me up, bookmattcardona@gmail.com, and I’ll think about selling it. It says ‘Strong Island’ on the front. I’m not wearing that.”

When asked whether he said he wouldn’t wear the jacket while Cody was in the room, Cardona stated that it wasn’t true. He also recalled how he pitched Tony Khan the idea of having his AEW figure available for pre-order the night of his debut.

“That’s not true. That is untrue. That’s a Cody story,” Cardona said. “I’ll tell you this, the day I met Tony Khan, I pitched, ‘Hey, we should drop my figure on Ringside Collectibles the first night pre-order. It’s never been done [laughs].

“You can pre-order his figure that night. There’s already a render. It would have changed the wrestling business. I will say, I’ve had two matches there, but three tee-shirts.”

Cardona previously stated that he could tell a real-life story with Cody Rhodes. Click here to see what he had to say.
