NJPW Names Shota Umino, Ren Narita, And Yota Tsuji As The ‘Reiwa Three Musketeers’

NJPW has named a new group as the Three Musketeers.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced that the trio of Shota Umino, Ren Narita, and Yota Tsuji will be named the Reiwa Three Musketeers. NJPW has used the name three times before; most recently, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Shinsuke Nakamura and Katsuyori Shibata received the moniker in 2004, and all three men went on to have remarkable careers with the company.

The announcement noted that NJPW made the move “in recognition of their quick ascension in the ranks of New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and clear desire to lead a new generation within NJPW.”

NJPW first used the Three Musketeers name in 1988 with the group of Masahiro Chono, Shinya Hashimoto and Keiji Muto.

Umino recently teamed up with the Blackpool Combat Club in a high-profile match against The Elite at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. Tsuji had a breakout match at NJPW Dominion, where he unsuccessfully challenged SANADA for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Narita has been featured as a member of the STRONG Style stable.
