Darby Allin says the video package for Nick Wayne on the July 12 episode of AEW Dynamite was his idea.
Independent wrestling sensation Nick Wayne will finally make his AEW in-ring debut on the July 12 episode of AEW Dynamite. On the July 5 episode, Allin discussed Wayne’s backstory in a video package.
Speaking on the Lost Signals podcast, Allin was asked about the creative freedom he has in AEW, and he described how he pitched the idea for Wayne’s video package.
A good example is Nick Wayne. Nobody really knew him that much, from the national TV audience,” Hardy said. “How are you supposed to know a 16-year-old kid? Then I went up to Tony and I said, ‘Hey, I have these ideas, and I wanna present Nick in a way where I make a video package for him so people can get to know him before he wrestles, and just not throw him out there as a random guy, but have a backstory.
“I come up with a lot of stuff, but that’s the beauty of it. Tony lets me take the ball and run with it because that’s all I’ve ever wanted in life. Not just wrestling, but life, is just the opportunity to do something with myself, so it cool when you have someone that’s like Tony Khan, that has a national television company, and is letting you take a ball and run with it. A lot of it’s from my mind, for good or bad.”
