Dwayne Johnson Makes ‘Historic’ Donation to SAG-AFTRA Foundation Relief Fund

Dwayne Johnson, also known as WWE star The Rock, made an unprecedented donation to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation relief fund.

SAG-AFTRA went on strike on July 13, as the union is fighting for actors’ rights and better pay, among other concerns. The strike is heavily impacting actors, as they are not getting paid. As a result, SAG-AFTRA is using the Emergency Financial Assistance Program, which was utilized in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Per Angelique Jackson of Variety, Johnson received a letter detailing the purpose of the fund, and his team reached out to help.

Jackson noted that the exact amount of the donation was being kept anonymous. That being said, Johnson’s “seven-figure donation” could potentially aid thousands of actors. SAG-AFTRA Foundation executive director Cyd Wilson estimated that between 7,000 to 10,000 members will need assistance.

Dwayne Johnson’s donation was seen as a major statement of support, and SAG-AFTRA Foundation president Courtney B. Vance thanked him profusely in the interview.

Seth Rollins Comments On Strike

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins recently commented on the strikes in Hollywood. Speaking with TMZ Sports, he stated that he stands with the writers, but there’s an opportunity for WWE.

“Silver lining for us, I suppose,” Rollins said. “I know it’s a difficult time for the actors and the writers. I believe they’re doing the right thing, asking for what they deserve, [and] I stand by them. It is a fortunate part of not being part of a union, and we are able to still perform and for audiences and for people who may not be familiar, now they get an opportunity to tune in and see what we’re about.”

Rollins also highlighted that WWE’s business is booming, and it’s a special time for the company.
