Bruce Prichard Explains What The ‘It’ Factor Is

Bruce Prichard discusses what the “it” factor means to him.

Prichard is one of the highest-ranking figures behind the scenes in WWE, as he is the Executive Director of WWE RAW and SmackDown. He has a lengthy tenure with the company, and he has helped grow it into the juggernaut that it has become.

Speaking on Something To Wrestle with Bruce Prichard, was asked about the concept of a tryout match and what was WWE looking for.

“You’re looking for ‘it.’ You can’t always put your finger on what ‘“’it” is. But if someone can go out that no one knows who the hell they are and have an audience sitting on the edge of their seats by the end of the match, then you’re gonna take notice. I don’t think there was anything monumental. You don’t go out, you don’t have a checklist. ‘Well, they must do this, they must do that.’ It’s a feeling. x

Bruce Prichard: There Is No Checklist, It’s A Feel

Bruce Prichard then described how he can tell a lot about a talent by watching them in the ring. He made it clear that there are plenty of little things that he looks for. However, he stated that it’s more of a “feel” as to whether someone has “it” or not.

“I can tell a lot about a guy during the day if there’s a ring out there, and someone goes in. I watch how they get into the ring, I watch how they walk in the ring,” Prichard said. “Especially if you watch someone who gets in the ring and just kind of sits in the corner and lays in the ring and makes it their own, and they’re at home. Then there’s guys that get in the ring, and it’s foreign to them.

“I’ve also watched guys, they wipe their boots off before they get in the ring. It’s little things. It’s all kind of things that I don’t give a sh— if they’re the greatest worker in the world. But if they’re comfortable with what they do and they’re good and they’re able to garner a reaction, that’s good. There is no checklist, so much of a feel that you have it or you don’t.”
