Gunther: There Is No Man Born Yet To Take The Intercontinental Title From Me

Gunther is very confident now that he’s set to be the longest-reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion.

Gunther beat Chad Gable on the September 4 episode of WWE Raw. The win guarantees he will become the longest-reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion in history. Gunther will break a 35-year-old record set by the Honky Tonk Man from 1987-1988.

Speaking in a WWE digital exclusive, Gunther reveled in his present-day invincibility.

“From the moment I won this prestigious championship, I saw the vision. I envisioned this very moment. I’m the one to redefine history redefine the legacy of the Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship. I heard them talking, I heard them discussing their childhood heroes, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Honky Tonk Man, Steve Austin, The Rock. The reality is, when that bell rings, they all can come, line up, and lace my boots. Because as long as I’m alive, there’s no man born yet to take this title off me.”

A Vote Of Confidence

WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard spoke with GUNTHER about his Intercontinental Championship reign approaching the all-time record mark.

GUNTHER has been mentioned in fantasy matchups with the likes of Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns since his title reign started. He says being mentioned in that way also shows that he’s doing something successfully.

“Oh, it does a lot of course. The reason why we do is to entertain the audience,” he said. “When they put you on that level with those names, obviously that’s to boost your confidence and gives you the sign that you’re doing something right.“
