Chris Jericho: Sammy Guevara Match Is Like A ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’

Chris Jericho teases that his story with Sammy Guevara could go a number of ways.

At AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam, Chris Jericho will face Sammy Guevara in a first-time match. Thy have never faced each other in a singles bout, though they have been stablemates for the majority of AEW’s existence.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Jericho previewed the match and noted that it has been years in the making.

“It’s a story that’s been in the making,” he said. “Sammy and I have never had a one-on-one match, and we’ve been together literally since the first episode of Dynamite. We discussed that last week. I saw him on that NWA pay-per-view and I remember calling Tony, ‘This guy’s great. We should sign him. Who is this guy? Can we get him?’

“So there’s been a lot of history there, and we really have been able to tell this story and put the pieces in the right spot. Even having Sammy kind of accompany me at Wembley, that was the reason why he was there. He’s been connected with me so long that it really was a perfect time to have this match in Arthur Ashe.”

Chris Jericho Notes AEW All In And AEW All Out Were Considered

Chris Jericho continued by explaining that AEW All In and AEW All Out were considered. However, he stated that they held off so the bout would be held at Grand Slam. He also teased that the match could go several ways.

We wanted to do something special for New York City. Every show we’ve had so far at Arthur Ashe has been a huge success, and you try and give New York something a little bit extra, which New York demands. So we thought, do we do this match at Wembley? Do we do it in Chicago at All Out? It’s like, why don’t we just wait and do another couple weeks and really steer into Arthur Ashe at the right place, at the right time.

“I think we have some great momentum. We’ve told a great story, and there’s a lot of different ways the tale could go. It’s kind of a choose your own adventure, and we’re gonna choose that adventure for you.”
