Darby Allin: I’m Totally At Peace If I Die At Mount Everest

Darby Allin has his next several months all laid out in preparation to climb Mount Everest next year.

All Elite Wrestling‘s Darby Allin was a recent guest on BJ & Migs Daily Podcast. When asked about his comments on wanting to climb Mount Everest, Allin said that comes from wanting to be the spokesperson for the company.

“But my big thing is if I have to be the spokesperson for AEW to show if I’m the guinea pig of doing crazy stuff to get more eyes on the company, let me be that guy,” Darby Allin said. “That’s why I said I want to climb Mount Everest. I want to be the first-ever wrestler to climb Mount Everest; I want to be the first wrestler to go to space. I want to be the first ever to do everything.

“To me, I feel like a lot of people in wrestling, it’s like, what’s your character? [And they say] I’m not scared of anything. I’m a big bad man. But then, in real life, they’re like, please don’t hurt me! But I was like, no, I legit have no fear. I’m totally at peace if I die at Mount Everest. Like totally chill about it. So that’s where I’m like, alright, let me do that. Let me really make history here.

“Because I feel like there’s only so much we can do on the confines of Wednesdays and Saturdays and Fridays for the wrestling show. I’m thinking outside the box. How do we get more random buzz from people who don’t watch wrestling? It’s like if you see on the news that a pro wrestler climbed Mount Everest, and then they look at me. That’s my goal.”

It will take Darby Allin two months to climb Mount Everest

When asked how prepared he is for this climb, Allin detailed his plans over the next several months.

“I go to Switzerland in October to train there, I go to China in November. I go to New Zealand in February. And then actual Mount Everest is April,” Darby Allin said. “But literally, I’ve never climbed any mountains before. I wanted to go zero to 100. But the company that I was going through, they were like, ‘Alright, man. Come on.’

“I was like, ‘No, I just want to show that just the mind, the will to do something is strong enough where you don’t have to train for anything. And then again, they were like, ‘Come on.’ So I agreed, I’ll go to Switzerland. I’ll go to China, New Zealand. I’ll get the proper training. But the actual climb is in April, and it’s two months to climb it.”

When asked if there would be a vlog crew with him to record the climb, Allin doesn’t think so, as he doesn’t want to feel the need to entertain the cameras.

“I don’t know if I’m having a video crew, so to speak,” Darby Allin admitted. “And the only reason I’m thinking I might hold off from the video crew and I might just do my own vlogging is because I don’t want to feel like I have to entertain cameras. Whenever someone has a YouTube vlog, you can kind of tell they’re acting.

“I got to think about my life on that mountain. I can’t think about making cameras feel like it’s so fun if I survived the avalanche, but then the Yeti got me. But that’s the thing, though. I really feel like I want to be the guy, the spokesperson for AEW inside the ring and outside the ring. That’s my goal.”
