Lio Rush Pulled From NJPW Events Due To Illness

Lio Rush will miss some upcoming New Japan Pro-Wrestling events due to illness.

New Japan announced the change on Tuesday. The specific illness was not disclosed. Lio Rush will miss events in Iwate and Aomori on October 4 and 5. Ryusuke Taguchi will replace Rush on the events.

“We apologise to fans who were looking forward to seeing Lio wrestle and appreciate your understanding,” New Japan wrote in a statement. “NJPW joins fans in wishing Lio a full and fast recovery.”

UPDATE: Lio Rush says he’s dealing with an extremely high fever and hopes to see fans soon.

“For those of you who are really worried, I am currently recovering from a 105 degree F fever and don’t want to leave my body. Please keep me in your prayers. see you soon,” he said on Twitter.

WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard recently spoke with Lio Rush about how he’ll balance his time in IMPACT and New Japan. Rush said he wants to continue exploring the “forbidden door,” whether that be in IMPACT, NJPW, or other promotions.

“You want to talk about a forbidden door, I’ve been in that door, out that door, multiple times. Right now, I like to think of myself, if there’s a door, I’m the handle, because everybody has to go through me. Everybody has to touch me. Everybody has to get to me in order to walk to the other side. So, I’m excited. I love the position that I’m in right now, and it’s an exciting time.”
