Rey Mysterio gives Logan Paul credit for the way he has grown since he made his in-ring debut.
After Logan Paul defeated Dillon Danis at The PRIME Card, he called out WWE United States Champion Rey Mysterio. Mysterio responded, and it seems like they’re on a collision course for a match.
Speaking on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Rey Mysterio commented on Logan Paul‘s growth in the ring.
“I do believe that he has trust in his growth inside a wrestling ring,” Rey Mysterio said. “Look at the performance he had against Ricochet. Incredible. I had to tip my mask off to that match. It was really good. Then the one prior to that, against Roman. I think he now wants to make a statement in WWE, and he wants to carry gold.”
When asked whether he thinks Paul’s maturation has been better than he expected, Mysterio again stated that Paul has grown. He also pointed out that Paul didn’t exactly beat him at WrestleMania 38.
“Yes, really. I think he’s grown,” Rey Mysterio said. “I had his first match, my son and I versus The Miz and him. Now he did mention something that I gotta correct. He said, ‘I already beat you once.’ I think he’s mistaken because the one that beat me was The Miz. So if Miz wouldn’t have saved the day in that match, Dom and I would have pinned him.”
Rey Mysterio: Logan Paul Has Gained Our Respect
Helwani then asked Mysterio whether Paul has improved more than he thought he would. The veteran stated that Paul’s improvement has been apparent. He highlighted the way Paul can adapt to any style.
” I see his growth and his improvement,” Rey Mysterio said. “Especially after having the match against Roman and then this last match, he can adapt to any style, which is crazy. Not a lot of guys can come into our world and perform the way they perform, like Logan, and like Bad Bunny. They pick up the beat right away. So it’s shocking, but not scary.”
Mysterio was subsequently asked to describe how the locker room responded to Paul when he arrived. He noted that other members of the roster were initially a little cold, but Paul gradually proved himself and earned their respect.
“I think the buzz was like, ‘Ah,’ a little standoffish, a little cold,” Rey Mysterio said. “But I think slowly, the more he was around and the more we saw he was taking this to heart, then we started to give that respect. He has gained the respect of all of us. We see his work. We see how much he appreciates, and we see what he puts in to go out there and perform.”
Rey Mysterio and Logan Paul are set to come face-to-face on the October 20 episode of WWE SmackDown.
