Anthony Bowens has been named as the #1 Groundbreaker on the 2023 Out100 by Out Magazine.
Out Magazine profiled Bowens for the 2023 Out100 list. The website called Bowens is “one of the artists, disruptors, educators, groundbreakers, innovators, and storytellers who all helped make the world a better place for LGBTQ+ people.”
Bowens spoke with Daniel Reynolds of Out Magazine and discussed his remarkable run in AEW up to this point.
“I have the honor of being AEW’s first gay champion when I won the tag-team title last year,” Anthony Bowens said. “But we got the gold back around our waist and I’m super excited about it.”
Bowens also commented on coming out and noted that he wanted to help people who were in his shoes.
“There’s a time where I wasn’t out, I was in the closet. I didn’t know how that would affect my career,” Bowens said. “Part of wanting to come out was to help people who were in my shoes and to do that through my love of professional wrestling.”

Anthony Bowens then took to social media and commented on being named the #1 Groundbreaker on the 2023 Out100 list. He stated that he was extremely honored, and he thanked everyone for following him on his journey.
Bowens currently holds the AEW World Trios Championship with Max Caster and Billy Gunn. They will defend the titles at AEW Battle of the Belts VIII on October 21. WrestleZone will have coverage of the show as it airs on Saturday.
