Jon Moxley Opens Up About His Sobriety Journey And Ongoing Recovery

Jon Moxley speaks candidly about his sobriety journey.

Jon Moxley, a three-time AEW World Champion, is often viewed as one of the faces of AEW. He has carried the company through difficult chapters in its history. But Moxley himself dealt with a major challenge in 2021, as he entered an inpatient alcohol treatment program in November. He missed roughly two months and returned to AEW in January 2022.

Speaking with Daniel Trainor of The Messenger, Jon Moxley opened up about his sobriety journey and admitted that the challenge remains difficult.

“It’s f—ing hard,” Jon Moxley said. “It’s not the same hell as before, but it’s a completely different challenge every single day where you don’t know what direction it might go in.”

“I would love to give you like a positive, self-help book-type answer or something about f—ing sunshine and rainbows and fairies and sh–, but that’s really not reality,” Moxley said of his sobriety. “It’s been good on the whole, it’s been good. I’m the luckiest guy in the world. But, you know, you will pay for it on the other side, your choices you make in your life.”

Jon Moxley Highlights His Ongoing Recovery

Jon Moxley then described how it takes time for one’s body and mind to regulate itself as part of sobriety. He stated that his recovery is ongoing, and he recognizes that it affects others.

“You f— up your brain chemistry,” Jon Moxley said. “It takes a lot of time for your body and the physical damage you’ve done to yourself to regulate itself. I’m not always the easiest person to be around. I have crazy mood swings and sh– like that.”

However, Moxley noted that he now sees the world with more clarity, and he has no patience for “bulls**t”. Check out his comments here.

Moxley previously stated that, mentally and physically, he feels better than he has in a long time. Click here to see what he had to say.
