The Gunns: We Get Along With Dominik Mysterio Because We Both Have Deadbeat Dads

Austin and Colten Gunn speak on their connection with Dominik Mysterio as second-generation athletes who have issues with their famous fathers.

In AEW, The Gunns separated from their father, Billy Gunn, and are now happily part of Bullet Club Gold, carving out their own path in wrestling with a new family. Over in WWE, Dominik Mysterio separated from his father, Rey Mysterio, forging his own path alongside his new family in the Judgment Day faction.

Speaking about their kinship with Dominik Mysterio, Austin & Colten told Liam Crowley of ComicBook.com that they get along so well with Dom because they both have “deadbeat dads.” Still, ultimately they think that Billy Gunn is more of the deadbeat father than Rey Mysterio.

“This is why we connect with Dom so much and get along so much with Dom. Both of our dads are deadbeat dads,” Austin said. “I think they’re tied.”

“I honestly think maybe ours because Rey didn’t adopt a new kid and start running around with him,” Colten added, alluding to Billy’s alliance with The Acclaimed’s Anthony Bowens and Max Caster. “Whereas our dad just adopted two new kids and won titles with them and is scissoring on national TV and making all this merch. I don’t see Rey doing that. He’s still upset that his kid is not with him. Our dad, I don’t even think he remembers our names. So I’m going with Billy Gunn.”

“I take back my answer. Colten, that was a great answer,” Austin concluded.

Regardless of familial ties, Rey Mysterio just can’t stop having people turn on him. Recently, Santos Escobar put him on the shelf with an injury, after attacking Rey Mysterio on the November 10 episode of WWE SmackDown.
