Rey Mysterio Says He Had Successful Knee Surgery

Rey Mysterio says he will heal up and wait for his chance at revenge.

Mysterio posted the following on Instagram, claiming he recently had surgery on his right knee.

“Knee surgery was successful [prayer hands emoji] @dugasmd,” Mysterio wrote on Instagram. “Now payback on @escobarwwe is on the horizon! Pagarás por los daños #Santos”

LWO no more?

Rey Mysterio was seemingly written off of WWE television last week after Santos Escobar turned on him on SmackDown.

The betrayal took place after Bobby Lashley beat Carlito on SmackDown. The Street Profits helped Lashley beat up Carlito after the match, and Escobar sat by and watched. Rey Mysterio ran out for the save, but Escobar tried to stop him from helping.

Mysterio shoved Escobar and said they were family, then Escobar attacked the pair and Mysterio attempted to patch things up. Escobar ultimately threw Mysterio into the stairs and dropkicked them into Rey’s arm and hand. Escobar claimed Mysterio made him do it, and that it was supposed to be about the two of them.

Rey Mysterio’s last match was at WWE Crown Jewel, where he lost the WWE United States Championship to Logan Paul.

Update: Haus of Wrestling reports that Mysterio is expected to miss 6-8 weeks because of the injury. It was noted that Mysterio has been working through a torn meniscus for a few months. Mysterio’s knee slowly got worse, so he agreed to drop the WWE United States Championship to Logan Paul and do the Escobar angle before having surgery. Mysterio should be back in time for the Royal Rumble and Road To WrestleMania if his recovery goes as scheduled.
