IYO SKY Reunites With Mayu Iwatani and Rossy Ogawa

IYO SKY reunited with her former Thunder Rock tag partner Mayu Iwatani and STARDOM executive producer Rossy Ogawa in a recent photo.

Rossy Ogawa posted a photo with IYO SKY and Mayu Iwatani on Twitter upon IYO’s return to Japan. “There was a mysterious party tonight. What a shot with the former Thunder Rock. We had a good time,” he says (translation made available via Google Translate).

WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY is believed to stay in Japan for the remainder of the holidays.

IYO SKY and Mayu Iwatani’s history

IYO SKY, formerly known as Io Shirai, previously tagged with Mayu Iwatani under the “Thunder Rock” tag team. The two have quite the storied history starting off as partners. Before IYO betrayed Mayu to form the currently known Queen’s Quest faction, they held the Goddess of Stardom Championship for a total of 407 days. No team in STARDOM is yet to defeat their record. They are also former two-time Artist of Stardom Champions. Their first reign was alongside Takumi Iroha in 2014 while their second was with Kairi Sane.

Furthermore, their breakup lead to a plethora of physically competitive matches that are considered as some of the best in-ring showcases the company has to offer. Mayu Iwatani once defeated IYO SKY to become the World of Stardom Champion in 2017.

IYO and Mayu’s historic rivalry led to their recognition as the aces of STARDOM alongside Kairi Sane who recently made her return to WWE to team with IYO. The three are collectively known as the Daughters of STARDOM.

Since their last encounter in a wrestling ring, IYO SKY went on to capture major championship gold in both WWE and NXT territories. She currently reigns as the WWE Women’s Champion on the Smackdown brand. Mayu Iwatani, on the other hand, reigns as the IWGP Women’s Champion.
