Tony Khan On MJF: I Can’t Comment On His Future, He’s Always Welcome In AEW

Tony Khan cannot comment on MJF‘s future in AEW.

Former AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) often has teased “The Bidding War of 2024”, as he was set to hit free agency on January 1. At AEW Worlds End, Samoa Joe beat MJF to win the gold. Tthe former champion was subsequently removed from AEW’s roster page.

During the AEW Worlds End post-show media scrum, WrestleZone’s Colin Tessier asked Tony Khan about MJF’s status with the company.

“I believe Max is somebody who has a great heart and somebody who has a great heart and somebody who loves AEW,” Khan said. “I think everybody read that in the [Players’ Tribune] article. [But] I can’t speak to his future in 2024 here at this time.

“But I do think MJF has been a huge part of AEW for five years, and MJF is somebody also that is welcome in AEW and wanted in AEW for life, and he’s also a huge part of the growth of AEW and the success of the company.”

Tony Khan Highlights MJF’s Contributions In AEW

Later in the scrum, Tony Khan was asked whether MJF was under contract heading into 2024. He stated that he could not comment on MJF’s future. However, he highlighted his contributions to the company and emphasized that he was always welcome in AEW.

“I right now can’t comment on the future of MJF at AEW, other than to say we’re very grateful for everything he’s done to this point to get us here. MJF’s been a big part of AEW now for five years. He is one of the people that helped build this place.

“He’s been a part of some of the biggest moments in AEW over the past five years. MJF’s also somebody that’s always welcome here for the rest of his career. But I can’t speak directly to his future.”

After AEW Worlds End, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that MJF was expected to take time off. The report also cites WWE sources who have claimed that they have not had conversations with MJF. Per Sapp, most in AEW believe that he re-signed over a year ago.
