Adam Copeland: WWE Pitched Having Judgment Day Float To The Ring

Adam Copeland reveals some of WWE’s original plans for Judgment Day prior to his abrupt exit from the group.

Before Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes were sidelined with injuries in 2022, Adam “Edge” Copeland was set to continue his run as the brooding leader of The Judgment Day. Once Orton and Rhodes were written off WWE programming, however, the RAW brand needed a top babyface to step up in their place. As a result, Copeland was swiftly kicked out of The Judgment Day. Finn Balor then asserted himself as the group’s leader.

During a recent interview with Sam Roberts on Notsam Wrestling, Copeland revealed some of the plans that WWE had for Judgment Day prior to this sudden shift in power.

“We were going to have Balor cause the mutiny a year later,” Copeland said. “That got sped up to tomorrow. Okay, I get it. We beat Balor [and AJ Styles and Liv Morgan at Hell in a Cell 2022]. The next night was the turn, but there was elements of it that [didn’t make it into the final product].”

Judgment Day Entrance Plans

“At one point, it was talked about [having] a cauldron with bubbling black fluid and I’m holding a pitchfork. I was like ‘Whoa, I don’t want to do that because that’s not going to work.’ Then there was one week they wanted us to float to the ring. I was like ‘What?’ They said ‘Well no, we’ll put it on like a dolly and then we will shoot.’ Then I’m sitting on a throne and [Damian] Priest’s full core is engaged because he’s basically surfing holding on to this thing. We’re going down, and all I felt as we’re going down, I was like, ‘This is Spinal Tap. This is Spinal Tap…'”

“I got to the back, I was like, ‘Yeah, I don’t think that entrance works guys,’ but it’s that [sense of] ‘Okay I’ll give it a shot because, hey, it ain’t my sandbox right and I don’t cut the checks.’ If this is what you want, I’ll try and make it work, but I’ll also be the first one to tell you, ‘That didn’t work. So we probably shouldn’t do that anymore, right? Okay good.’ It was one of those. “
