CM Punk has had many memorable moments in his career. According to him, though, one night in 2006 remains one of his fondest.
Speaking to Stephanie McMahon during an appearance on the What’s Your Story? podcast, Punk reflected on his performance at 2006’s Survivor Series. The pay-per-view featured a ton of matches, including Punk’s. That match saw Punk take part in a 5-on-5 elimination match where he teamed up with D-X (Triple H & Shawn Michaels) and The Hardys to take on Team Rated-RKO (Edge, Randy Orton, Gregory Helms, Johnny Nitro, and Mike Knox).
Team D-X won the match, and according to Punk, it was one of the “greatest days” of his entire career. However, he did say that he disagreed with some of the aspects of the match, including who should’ve gotten the “heat” between him and Jeff Hardy.
“One of the greatest days of my career, honestly,” Punk said (via Wrestling Inc.), before opening about the disagreement he had. “Pat Patterson – f-cking legend – he’s the agent, he’s sitting there, going over the match, … and Pat’s like, ‘Okay, guys, this is what we do: we get the heat on Jeff, we get the heat on Jeff, we get the heat on Jeff.’ And this little f-cking voice in my head was just like: ‘Should get the heat on me.’
“And Pat [said], ‘No way, it’s Jeff Hardy! They go crazy for Hardy, they don’t know who this kid is!'” Punk joked. While he said he knew what Patterson was doing, he did say Pat went on to apologize after. “He’s like: ‘I am so sorry, I had no idea they know who you are! Oh, my God, they love you!’ From that point on, like, I was Pat’s guy! … I felt like I earned Pat’s f-cking love, you know?”
