Report: Kevin Patrick Being Removed From WWE SmackDown Commentary Team

It appears that Kevin Patrick’s time as lead announcer on SmackDown is coming to an end.

F4WOnline.com’s Dave Meltzer (via Wrestling Observer Radio) confirmed that unless plans change, Kevin Patrick is being removed from SmackDown commentary. Aaron Varble first reported the news on Monday night; PWInsider also confirmed details about the move.

According to the initial report, Patrick’s role on SmackDown “just wasn’t working out.” PWInsider.com provided more information, noting that the decision was made Monday night by WWE executives. It was stated that Patrick is well-liked personally, but there was a feeling “for some time” that the role was not the right fit.

PWInsider.com also writes that Patrick was scheduled to travel to this week’s SmackDown taping, highlighting that the move was a last-minute decision.

WWE has not announced the commentary change, and a replacement has not been named at this time.

Kevin Patrick has been with WWE since March 2021. He began his tenure as a backstage correspondent, commentator and host on RAW, then moved to SmackDown last year. Patrick had been paired with Corey Graves and Michael Cole on SmackDown, before Cole left SmackDown to focus on RAW only.
