Sean Waltman Was Initially Listed To Be In The 2022 Men’s Royal Rumble Match

When fans talk about the greatest factions of all time in professional wrestling, many teams would come up. Some would consider The Bullet Club, some would mention Evolution, The New Day, and even the S.H.I.E.L.D.

But two factions that would be in the discussion for the Mount Rushmore of wrestling factions are NWO and D-Generation-X. One person who was part of both groups was WWE Hall of Famer Sean Waltman. He has been away from wrestling for a couple of years now. But it looks like back in 2022, there were plans for him to step inside a WWE ring as a competitor once again.

While speaking on Keepin It 100 Podcast with Konnan and Disco Inferno, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed that he was initially asked to compete in the 2022 Men’s Royal Rumble match. But at the last minute, things did not work out.

“A couple of years ago, when I ended up actually having a couple of matches, I had a tag match with Matt Cardona and Brian Myers at GCW, and I had a singles match with Joey Janela; I told them I would be ready for the Rumble. Somebody, I’m not going to say who, I don’t want to stooge them off, but they had me listed for a Rumble appearance that somehow got scratched. This year, I ate what I wanted to over the holidays. I’m in good shape and everything, but I’m not in ‘go’ television shape. If you tell me, ‘Be ready in two months,’ I’ll get abs, but I’m not going to do that and be like, ‘I hope they call me.’ Fuck that,” Sean Waltman said. [H/T Fightful.com]

Waltman has not wrestled since the match with Janela. He had surgery for a torn biceps, and has said that’s he’s open to other appearances, but told Chris Van Vliet that he’s more likely to do a multi-man match rather than an actual run on his own.
