Becky Lynch Says No One Ever Asked Her To Change Her Accent, That Was A Rumor

Becky Lynch reflected on bad career advice and set the record straight on an old rumor.

Lynch spoke with Adrian Hernandez while promoting her new book, Becky Lynch: The Man: Not Your Average Average Girl. During the conversation, the two did a speed round and Hernandez asked Lynch about the worst career advice she’s been given.

“Girls can’t punch.” Becky quipped.

Hernandez followed up and asked if anyone asked her to change her accent.

“No. Never. I think that was a rumor,” Lynch noted, “but that never happened.”

The rumor she referenced was a story about how former WWE producer Kevin Dunn allegedly said that Lynch wasn’t attractive enough to be champion, and that he hated her accent enough that he wanted to give her less television time. This story, which allegedly took place in 2016, came from an unreliable source, but that didn’t stop the rumor from spreading on the internet.

At the time, Becky Lynch made an apparent subtweet about her accent but hadn’t directly commented on the story. However, it’s good to see Lynch now put the rumor to bed.

Kevin Dunn left WWE in December 2023. Following Dunn’s exit, WWE confirmed Lee Fitting had been hired as the new Head of Media and Production in WWE.

Payback

Speaking with the Cheap Heat podcast, Becky Lynch talked about her Payback 2023 match with Trish Stratus. Lynch called it one of her favorite matches she’s ever had.

“I loved that match. It’s gonna go down as one of my favorite matches, and one of the matches I’m most proud of. I loved that match. I felt very, very ‘in it’ the whole time too. That’s how I measure how good a match is, is how present I feel in it.

“Sometimes you’re thinking about things, because you have to think about a lot. Its easier to get lost in the present tense of a match when its on a pay per view, because you’re not so beholden to advertisements and things like that. You have more freedom. Usually you have to be thinking about break spots, or going off air if you’re in the main event. With pay per view, you get that freedom to breath and enjoy, to be present. That was one of those matches where I really felt in it, really enjoyed it the whole time.”

When asked if Trish was thrilled with the match, Lynch responded, “Yeah, she was.”
