Big E Says He Is In Control Of His In-Ring Future, Doesn’t Have An Answer Yet

Big E does not have an answer regarding his future in the ring.

Big E has not wrestled since March 2022, as he fractured his C1 and C6 vertebrae when he landed badly on a suplex from Ridge Holland. Updates on his future have been few and far between, as it is unclear whether he will wrestle again. He recently said that he did not have a timeline for his return.

Speaking with CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri, Big E was asked for an update on his future.

“We don’t, unfortunately. I appreciate everyone still asking,” Big E said. “The C1 is a tricky bone, and I broke it in two places, something called a Jefferson fracture, so I’m just trying to make the best decision for myself and for my health. I wish I had a better answer, but unfortunately, I don’t have any right now.”

Big E Wants To Make The Best Decision For His Health

Big E was then asked to describe what the primary determining factor for his return was, and whether it was up to him. He stated that he thought he had been put in control of that. Big E stated that he was listening to the doctors. He emphasized that he was trying to make the best decision for his health.

“The great thing is, I think they put me in control of that,” Big E said. “Obviously, I’m listening to the doctors, as far as my health and prognosis. It’s one of those things where my ability to live my life day to day, be in the gym, is not compromised at all. But obviously, getting in the ring, taking bumps, getting thrown on my back and on my neck, that’s a little bit different. I didn’t get into this to end up in a wheel chair or worse. I started wrestling when I was 23. At 23, the idea of being 38, which is the age I’m at now, feels so far off.

“The idea of what life in your 40s and 50s looks like feels like an eternity from now, but now those are real things and consequences that I think about, and wanting to…it’s one of things, I’ve been athlete my whole life. I played tackle football at seven, and amateur wrestling in middle high school, high school, so I’ve doing physical things my entire life, and I never wanted to leave sports hobbled and crippled. Now, at 38, those are considerations of mine. I just want to make sure that I’m making the best decision for myself and for my health moving forward. So it’s just one of those things I want to be smart about.

Big E On Making A Decision

Big E was also asked whether he thought there would be a “Eureka” moment as far as making a decision, and he noted that he was not sure.

“I don’t know if there will be one,” Big E said. “I think for me, I wish I had a more concrete answer. It’s just a matter of listening to the doctors, taking in enough information, looking at my more recent set of scans, and deciding if the gamble is worth it. It’s all kind of fluid right now. I hate being so vague and so murky. But that’s kind of where things are right now.”
