Bayley: WrestleMania 40 Is A Crossroads In My Career

Bayley thinks WrestleMania 40 is one of the biggest matches of her career.

She won the 2024 Women’s Royal Rumble in January. Bayley then challenged former teammate IYO SKY for the WWE Women’s Championship in a huge WrestleMania match.

Speaking to WWE on their YouTube channel, Bayley spoke about how important WrestleMania 40 is to her. She claimed that the event is a ‘crossroads with my career’, and her legacy will be defined by her performance this weekend in Philadelphia.

“I feel like I’m at a crossroads with my career right now. If I don’t get this done, I’m just gonna be ‘Ah, she almost made it!’. But if I’m able to do this, this year, it’s going to be what defines me. It has to start at WrestleMania, and I have to take it from Iyo [Sky], because she’s one of the girls that’s trying to stop me from getting to the top. I’ve never quite made it there. I’ve been on every single show since I returned, I’ve been on everything. And I’ve had title matches, and I’m still in the conversation when it comes to women’s wrestling, but I’m not there yet, and I have to go through to Iyo to prove that to myself, to the fans, to the back. So to me, more than the title, it’s my legacy. This WrestleMania is my legacy, and its the crossroads of ‘Can she do it, or will she never get there?’.”

Bayley Wanted To Be A Stepping Stone For Damage CTRL Teammates

In the same video, Bayley explained the vision behind the Damage CTRL faction. She claimed that she wanted to be a “stepping stone” for IYO SKY and Dakota Kai, although she wasn’t thrilled they attacked her and kicked her out of the group.

“To me, I thought it was going to be this whole freaking….we’re gonna be so dominant and take over and we were gonna be like The Shield, you know? It just didn’t really play out exactly like that. I thought it was gonna be like ‘We start something new, and people always get excited for that’, which they were excited at first. But then it’s like, ‘now what?’. Hunter [Triple H] gave me the platform to do it, and I kind of was sinking for a little bit.

“But now we’re here, in hindsight, I think it still came out a success, the way I wanted it to. I wanted them to grow and become their own person. I was just a stepping stone, I knew that. That was my goal. I’m just a stepping stone to get them out to Raw and Smackdown and Summerslam and WrestleMania and Royal Rumble. They’ve done all those things. But, I didn’t think they would kick me to the curb in the process. It was supposed to be like, I freed them, go and spread your wings. That’s what I thought it would be.”
