Trick Williams says he would rather fail than not get an opportunity in the first place.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, NXY Champion Trick Williams recalled asking Shawn Michaels for a chance to have a run in the spotlight. He detailed how Michaels told him that, sometimes, people asked for chances they weren’t ready for.
“I feel like, when it comes to opportunities, first thing’s first, shoutout to Shawn Michaels,” Trick Williams said. “We put something on TV that was the real deal. When I went to Shawn Michaels’ office and asked him for an opportunity to show what I could do, taking a chance on myself. I said, ‘Hey, I enjoy working with the likes of Carmelo Hayes and he’s doing great things, but I want to see what Trick Williams can do.’ Shawn, he looked at me and said, ‘A lot of people come to my office and they ask for an opportunity. But a lot of times, they’re not really ready for the opportunity.
“So if I give you this opportunity and you ain’t ready, you could be sitting on the bench for a while.’ But I was like hey, that’s what I’m here to do. So if I can’t do it, then I don’t need to be here in the first place.’ So that’s how it went, and he gave me an opportunity, and all this is to say, I’m fortunate. I’m thankful for Shawn Michaels. I’m thankful for everybody who did extend some trust towards me to show what I can do, and I hope I’m making it worth everybody’s while.”
Trick Williams Would Rather Fail Than Not Get A Chance
Bully Ray then noted that Trick Williams was advocating for himself and reminding the powers-that-be who he was. Williams agreed and stated that his biggest fear was not being able to reach his potential.
“Absolutely. I mean, closed mouths don’t get fed, and you can’t sit in the back and want an opportunity and nobody knows it,” he said. “Ain’t nobody no mind-reader. My biggest fear is not being able to reach my potential, and if I say in the back and didn’t say a word, and I didn’t get to where I wanted to by the end of my career, I couldn’t live with myself, so I’m gonna find out one way or another. I’m gonna get out there, and I’ll fail before I never get an opportunity.
