Kamille Defends ‘Queen of the Ring’ Co-Star Damaris Lewis After AEW Revolution Flub

Kamille responds to the criticism Damaris Lewis received for her comments at AEW Revolution.

At AEW Revolution, Queen of the Ring star Damaris Lewis sparked some controversy. When asked to comment on what she learned about professional wrestling when she was working on the movie, she responded by saying that wrestlers knew they were going to win before anyone else. The answer garnered some harsh feedback, as some fans felt like she was saying that wrestling itself was predetermined.

In a post on Instagram, Kamille, who co-starred in Queen of the Ring with Lewis, responded to the criticism she received for her comments.

Kamille Defends Damaris Lewis

“I’m seeing lots of things about, ‘Oh my gosh, how could this actress say that wrestling is fake? What in the world’s going on?’ I looked, and it was my girlfriend Damaris, and I was thinking, why would she say something like that? I did press with her, I was on the film with her,” Kamille said. “She has so much respect for wrestling. So I looked into it, and I watched the video. Guys, that’s not what she meant. I did press with her, and a lot of questions that were asked was like, ‘What’s your biggest takeaway from this film?’ Something that she really reinforced was that she learned from Mildred’s story and from a lot of the wrestlers that she got to talk to is that they already know they’re gonna win. She’s not talking about who’s going to win. If you noticed, she doesn’t say, ‘Y’all already know who’s going to win.’

“She said, ‘Y’all already know you’re going to win.’ What she meant by that is, we are determined. We know that we’re winners, we know that we’re gonna make it no matter what. We have in our mind predetermined that we’re going to win, that we’re going to get where we want to go, do what we want to do, what dream we set. That’s what she meant, guys. If you watch other interviews that she did, she makes it much more clear. It’s unfortunate it came out the way it did in the situation it came out in, but she only had a few seconds to get across something that was really meaningful for her.”

Kamille And Damaris Lewis On ‘Queen Of The Ring’

Kamille and Damaris Lewis recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about Queen of the Ring. They highlighted the most important message to take away from the film. Lewis explained how things were much different today than they were in Mildred Burke’s era.

“The biggest thing at the moment is the importance of locking in and turning off the noise. I think in today’s day and age, there’s so much stimulation,” Lewis said. “We can see what so many people are doing, but we can’t see what they did to get there. Doubt is running rampant because you get on your phone and see what she’s doing, what he’s doing, and the success they have, what kind of bag she has. How much money they have, or how much money they don’t have.”

“The thing to remember when you watch this movie is that they didn’t have any of that, and they still did it,” Lewis continued. “None of it. It wasn’t easy, it wasn’t always fun, but this movie shows you that it’s possible. So if you have a dream about anything, I want you to watch this movie and know that if you lock in and never lose sight of that thing, anything is possible.”
