Mickie James cut a promo during this week’s WrestleCon Supershow that resulted in the crowd chanting a message directed at Dave Meltzer.
During a match against Maki Itoh at this week’s WrestleCon Supershow, James took to the mic. She joked about several wrestlers looking for their “five-star notices,” then said Meltzer had never put her over, and wouldn’t that night. James then said that what she does is entertain.
As she continued speaking, the crowd began a “Dave Meltzer sucks” chant, to which James let happen for a second. The superstar then continued for a bit before match with Itoh began. In the match, James came out on top after James hit a thrust kick and a DDT.
Meltzer, for those uninitiated, has been a journalist covering professional wrestling since the 1980s. Since 1983, he’s been the publisher and editor of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. He’s also known for popularizing the star rating system for wrestling matches, which has not only become popular amongst fans, but known amongst wrestlers as well.
In a funny twist, both James and Meltzer were honored with PWI’s Stanley Weston Award in 2024.
