WWE NXT Results: Review, Grades, Card For May 27

Our WWE NXT results for tonight include Tatum Paxley battling Jaida Parker, WWE LFG Men’s Division winner Jasper Troy’s In-Ring Debut, TNA Superstar Mike Santana clashing with the No Quarter Catch Crew’s Tavion Heights, Fatal Influence’s Jacy Jayne challenging Stephanie Vaquer for the NXT Women’s Championship, and Ricky Saints defending the NXT North American Championship against Ethan Page. Here’s our review and grades for tonight’s show, live from the WWE Performance Center in Florida.

WWE NXT Card:

WWE NXT Results:

NXT North American Championship Match: Ricky Saints (c) vs. Ethan Page

Security surrounds the ring as Saints and Page make their entrances. During the introductions, Page and Saints tear into each other. After being separated by security, the referee tells the ring announcer the match is starting right now. Saints and Page lock up. After trading submission holds, Page lays in a few stiff shots to Saint’s gut. Saints tries to lift Page, but his ribs give him trouble after Page’s assault. Page tries an Ego’s Edge, but Saints escapes. The fight spills out of the ring. Page sends Saints into the ring steps. Page grabs a chair. Security takes the chair away. NXT GM Ava appears and tells the referee there needs to be a clear winner.

The referee tells Saints and Pag to fight. Saints leaps off the ring steps and lands on Page. After the break, security is back to holding Page and Saints back. Saints spears Page across the commentary desk. As Saints and Page brawl, security pulls Page and Saints apart. The referee tells Saints and Page to get back in the ring. While Saints is distracted, Page hits a Twisted Grin on a chair. Saints is clutching at his throat. The chair is in pieces. Saints eventually crawls back into the ring. Ego’s Edge by Page. Saints kicks out. Page works over Saints. Saints and Page trade strikes. Page escapes Saint’s finish and stuns him on the top rope, throat-first. Page hits another Twisted Grin for the win.

Winner and NEW NXT North American Champion, Ethan Page!

Grade: B+

Page and Saints channeled Peter Griffin and the Chicken tonight. Their feud is the definition of on-sight. Saints was all over Page, and Page committed attempted murder with that Twisted Grin on the chair. Despite the loss, the Saints looked like a million bucks tonight. Page may be the best heel in NXT at this point.

Mike Santana vs. Tavion Heights

Santana and Heights trade armbars and takedowns. Heights sends Santana flying with a Judo throw. Santana sends Heights out of the ring. Tope by Santana. After the break, Heights lands a gut wrench. Santana and Heights trade strikes. Huge chop by Santana. Santana catches Heights’ boot from Heights. Enziguri by Santana.

Rolling Buck 50 by Santana! Heights manages to kick out. Santana runs right into an overhead throw by Heights. Heights blasts Santana with a Death Valley Driver. Kick out by Santana. Heights calls for his finish. Sanatana catches Heights with a Superkick. After a series of reversals, Santana lands Spin the Block for the win.

Winner- Mike Santana

After the match, Santana helps Heights up. Charlie Dempsey shakes his head as Santana and Heights hug.

Grade: B

This was a great NXT debut by Santana. Santana has been underrated since his days in the new LAX. Seeing him in an NXT ring is amazing and long overdue. Santana looked strong tonight as he took on a very game Heights, who has looked great since returning from his excursion in Japan. Santana stood tall after spinning the block upside Height’s head, but the story here is what happened after the match. With Dempsey visibly showing his displeasure. If you connect the dots here between the growing heat between Dempsey and seemingly every member of NQCC, we may be heading toward another faction implosion.

Whoop Dat TrickNA

The new TNA Champion, Trick Williams, says he is making history. For the first time ever, an NXT Superstar is holding the TNA gold. Williams runs down all of his accomplishments. The crowd cheers. Williams tells the crowd not to start clapping now. A lot of the ones clapping now were singing along with “Average Joe” last week. Williams asks the crowd if they feel stupid. Everyone wants to talk about the line between NXT and TNA. There is no line. Williams is the line. Since NXT didn’t appreciate Williams, so he’s going to go to TNA and defend his championship. Williams proclaims he is better than every TNA Champion ever.

Williams says it’s not TNA anymore; it’s TrickNA. Mike Santana interrupts. Williams and Santana go back and forth. Santana says he won’t sit back as someone who carries the TNA flag and let Williams tear down what they have built. Santana calls Williams a pretender. Williams isn’t pleased. Santana tells Williams he’s going to take the TNA title from him. TNA Authority Figure Santino Marella appears on the ‘Tron and announces Williams will defend the TNA Championship next week against Santana. Santana offers Williams a handshake. Williams walks away. Williams tries a cheap shot. Santana sends Williams out of the ring with a lariat.

Grade: B

Trick Williams looks fantastic with the TNA gold. It’s surreal that this is happening, but we are here, so let’s just enjoy it. Williams was money on the mic today, running down the NXT Universe and all of TrickNA. Williams is best has a cocky heel, so he’s fully in his bag while dumping on literally everyone. Santana has been locked in the TNA Championship for months, so it’s not a surprise that he’s first up to challenge Williams. As great as Williams was here tonight, Santana ethered him with that pretender line. This writer is excited for the championship match next week. What do you all think will happen? Tatum Paxley vs. Jaida Parker

A quick exchange ends with Paxley taking Parker over in a butterfly suplex. Paxley slams Parker’s head into the turnbuckles repeatedly. Parker counters with a backstabber. Teardrop hip attack by Parker. Paxley fires up and lands a flurry of offense. Front flip leg drop by Paxley. A dropkick by Paxley sends Parker careening out of the ring. Parker grabs one of Paxley’s dolls and tosses it into the ring. While Paxley is distracted, Parker destroys Paxley with Hipnotic for the win.

Winner- Jaida Parker

After the match, Thea Hail appears and attacks Parker.

Grade: C+

Not to take away from Paxley and Parker, but the finish of this one didn’t land. Yes, Paxley is obsessed with her dolls, but that hasn’t come into play recently. Having a lead-up to Parker using the doll as a distraction and Paxley selling the distraction a bit more would have given this match a finish that matched the action.

Jasper Troy vs. Dante Chen

Troy tosses Chen all over the ring. A clothesline by Troy sends Chen over the top. Troy stun guns Chen on the apron. Troy crushes Chen in the corner with a body block. Chen fires up and lands a tornado DDT. Big boot by Chen. Chen lands a strike. Troy bounces off the ropes and flattens Chen with a body block. Blackhole Slam by Troy. Troy pins Chen.

Winner- Jasper Troy

After the match, NXT Champion Oba Femi congratulates Troy. Femi hopes Troy is enjoying his five minutes of fame. Now that Troy has Femi’s attention, his five minutes are over.

Grade: B-

Perfect debut squash match. Not sure Troy should be mixing it up with the NXT Champion yet, but it shows a level of commitment to the LFG winners.

North American Championship Celebration

The new NXT North American Champion, Ethan Page, says he doesn’t want to wait to celebrate. Je’Von Evans interrupts and says Page is defending the championship against him, Laredo Kid, and Rey Fenix.

Grade: C+

… Page is losing that championship at Worlds Collide.

NXT Women’s Championship Match: Stephanie Vaquer (c) vs. Jacy Jayne

Vaquer runs into the ring, and both women brawl. Jayne and Vaquer trade takedowns and pin attempts. Vaquer sets up the Devil’s Kiss, but Jayne escapes and lands a basement superkick. Jayne works over Vaquer. Vaquer’s World’s Collide opponents appear on the apron. Lola Vice runs down to the ringside, and a brawl breaks out. Back in the ring, Jayne rolls up a distracted Vaquer for a near fall. After the break, Jayne counters a backslide with a nasty running knee. Vaquer kicks out. Jayne misses a corner cannonball. Vaquer obliterates Jayne with a dragon screw off the turnbuckle.

The fight spills out of the ring. Vaquer electric chair drops Jayne on the apron. Butterfly Lung Blower by Vaquer. Henley gets on the apron. Jayne accidentally knees Henley in the face. Vaquer superkicks Jayne out of the ring. Jayne and Henley argue. Nyx tries to calm them down. Jayne and Henley push Nyx. Vaquer lands a dive. Vaquer lands a flurry. Nyx distracts the referee while Vaquer has Jayne in a rope-hanging armbar. Henley lands a 619 to Vaquer. Jayne hits her finish and pins Vaquer.

Winner and NEW NXT Women’s Champion, Jacy Jayne!

The entire arena is in shock.

Grade: C

This match was overbooked to the gills. With so much outside interference, it’s hard not to let that take away from the overall picture here. Jayne’s win is shocking. No one saw that coming, and with what happened with the North American Championship earlier in the night, there seems to be something amiss with the NXT Roster. When is the WWE Draft??

WWE NXT Review:

Tonight’s show featured intense action and several shocking title changes. The match of the night was Ricky Saints defending the North American Championship against Ethan Page. It was a vicious encounter that ended with the Saints dropping the championship to All Ego. Not to be outdone, Stephanie Vaquer also lost her championship in shocking fashion to NXT vet Jacy Jayne. That match wasn’t as hotly contested as the NA title match, with its overbooked finish, but the end results make it worth watching. Mike Santana wins the Golden Mic Award tonight for his brutal roast of Trick Williams. The landscape of NXT is completely in flux, and with TNA and AAA looming, quite literally anything can happen.
