It seems like Tony D’Angelo just got a farewell worthy of an iconic mob boss.
Tuesday’s episode of WWE NXT ended with a vignette featuring “The Don” Tony D’Angelo sitting at a table. A waiter handed him a glass of wine and addressed him as “The Don,” but Tony said the title wasn’t necessary anymore.
“Tony D.” unfolded his napkin and looked to his left, just in time to see a shadowy figure approach him from behind. The feed then cut to black as the show ended, leaving fans wondering what just happened to NXT’s favorite Paisan.

What’s next for Tony D?
It’s unclear what will happen next with Tony D’Angelo. Some fans have speculated that he was killed off. Others suggested that he is getting called up to RAW or SmackDown. The former is possible in a Universe that also has an Undertaker and Wyatt family, but unlikely. D’Angelo seemingly ended his lengthy feud with Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo and Luca Crusifino. However, it’s always possible that that feud continues, or a new character is introduced.
“Who did Tony see?” is used as the tagline. That would likely mean that the WWE Universe will find out who approached him at the table.
Is Tony dead or alive?
However, most fans easily saw the parallels in the way Tony D’s night ended compared to how The Sopranos’ series finale went off the air. The iconic HBO series ended its six-season run in 2007 with a finale called “Made In America.” The episode saw the main character, Tony Soprano, sitting in a diner waiting for all of his family to arrive. The scene is scored by Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” as the camera cuts between shots of Tony, the front door, and other patrons, before suddenly fading to black and remaining there for 10 seconds.
The ambiguous ending left many fans confused, wondering if it meant the show simply ended on a cliffhanger or if Tony had been killed. For years, show creator David Chase said he left the ending open-ended intentionally, refusing to confirm Tony Soprano’s status. However, he finally confirmed in a 2021 interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Soprano did get killed.
