A new report has revealed why the main event of WWE SmackDown last week ended the way it did.
For those unaware, Tiffany Stratton defended her WWE Women’s Championship in a triple threat match on SmackDown. In the closing minutes of the match, Jade Cargill suffered a massive gash on her eyebrow after Nia Jax shoved her face-first into the steel steps. Surprisingly, a report from PWInsider has confirmed that Jade only needed stitches to close the large wound. But what exactly happened with the finish?
According to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select), the original plan was for Stratton to break up Cargill’s pin on Jax. However, a purported delay caused Jax to kick out, leading to the awkward spot witnessed by fans in the arena and at home.
Despite the botched finish, Stratton retained her WWE Women’s Championship to end the WWE SmackDown main event. After the match, Stratton was confronted by WWE Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer to close out the show. Both women are scheduled to collide in a Champion vs. Champion match at Crown Jewel: Perth on October 11.
