Shelly Martinez says WWE had plans to form a new Brood in ECW.
Speaking on The Velvet Ropes podcast, former WWE Superstar Shelly Martinez, who’s known for being Kevin Thorn’s valet, revealed WWE had plans to revamp the iconic Brood faction, which originally featured Edge, Christian, and Gangrel, in ECW.
She said the new Brood was supposed to feature her, original member Gangrel, Jimmy Wang Yang, and Kevin Thorn.
“Now, when I first got there,” Shelly Martinez began, “Tommy Dreamer told me… I was going to only be at OVW for a little bit because I was gonna get called up because they were gonna make a new Brood. They were gonna come with a new Brood, it was gonna be Gangrel, me, Jimmy Wang Yang, and Kevin Seven (Kevin Thorn).
“I was excited because I’ve always been into vampires since I was a little girl, and I watched Lost Boys, and always been into the monsters. So I was like, ‘Dude, this is like the dream job,’ and then when I got there, like a couple days later, they did those firings they do after WrestleMania, and Jimmy Wang Yang, Kevin Seven, and Gangrel all got released.”
Speaking further, Shelly Martinez said that WWE had to feature such eerie characters on ECW television due to their deal with the Sci Fi (Syfy) network.
“So I was like, ‘This is not gonna happen,’ so for that whole year of OVW, I was trying to find my place and what was gonna get me to that main roster. So it was such a trip that, like a year later, ECW became revamped and came back, and I was gonna be a part of it because they needed to have, I guess their deal with the Sci Fi network is that they had to have sci-fi characters. That’s why when they first started, they had like the zombies and all these crazy little characters.”
